Please check /var/log/maillog (Postfix log) and /var/log/dovecot/*.log (Dovecot).

Thanks for looking at this - I don't think I've explained it very well.

I can't see anything odd in my setup and the postfix help files haven't helped me yet. I also haven't been able to replicate my problem using test (i.e. non-client) emails. My client knows that there is some sort of internal domain leakage at their end and are looking at it.

Let's close this question for now and, if I get any insights, I'll share.

Cannot receive email

==== REQUIRED BASIC INFO OF YOUR IREDMAIL SERVER ====
- iRedMail version: 0.9.9 MYSQL edition.
- Deployed with the downloadable installer.
- Linux/BSD distribution name and version: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

- Web server (Apache or Nginx): Nginx
- Manage mail accounts with iRedAdmin-Pro?: Nope

So basically I setup the server with the installer and the logs don't show any issues. I created a new user and sending mail works fine. However receiving email fails. The /var/log/mail.log shows me the following error:

to=<postmaster@MYDOMAIN.COM>, relay=dovecot, delay=1478, delays=1478/0/0/0.04, dsn=4.3.0, status=deferred (temporary failure. Command output: lda(postmaster@MYDOMAIN.COM,)Error: Error reading configuration: Invalid settings: postmaster_address setting not given lda: Fatal: Internal error occurred. Refer to server log for more information. )

I tried searching the forums and the rest of the internet but I cannot find a working solution. Anyone with tips?

because nginx will not serve any css to other sites I set up on the server.

This doesn't make any sense, Nginx should work fine in this case. Did you get any error message of this issue?

Bizarrely no error messages, and nothing at all logged that I could find. All css was just silently dropped.  I thought the firewall might be blocking it somehow, but that did not make sense as it would go via the same port.

Never mind, I lost patience and transferred all the http activity to another cloud server, which I coincidentally had recently reimaged and set up with nginx.  It works fine there, so I will let the two servers remain specialist, one for mail and one for 3w.

It has to be something I misconfigured, but sometimes life is too short to solve all the silly problems...

Comment out or remove "postmaster_address =" in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf, restart Dovecot service and try again.

- Does your web browser report "404 not found" error for these CSS files?
- Does Nginx log these "404 not found" error in its log file when you access the website? If no, then probably your firewall or some network device blocks the requests and it doesn't reach Nginx at all. In this case, no matter Apache/Nginx you use, you get same issue.

Hi,

i have a question regarding sieve. I want to filter all messages, where the envelope sender and the header sender differ. For this i want to check, whether the header sender contains the mail address of the envelope sender. But my attempts fail. How can i do that sieve?

Thank you for the response ZhangHuangbin. I've seen the same suggestion on the forum before and can assure you that my config does not contain the "postmaster_address = " line.

Do you have any other suggestions? Or could you maby explain why the line is not supposed to be there since the error states it should be?

Hi

I found the settings you gave us above in www.conf file under /usr/local/etc/php-fpm.d/ directory tree. I applied new settings and started monitoring the server. Until now server running without a problem.

/usr/local/etc/php-fpm.d/www.conf

Hmm, seems it requests a new URL. Old Outlook versions use "/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml".

Need some time to work it out.

Hi,
Yes it seems like it still uses it? But it is still getting 404 on /autodiscover/autodiscover.xml for some reason.

Anyway, looking forward to your solution!

Damn the error was so small.

The issue really lies on this line:

listen.allowed_clients = 127.0.0.1, 192.168.8.36

IPs can't have space in between, just a coma.

listen.allowed_clients = 127.0.0.1,192.168.8.36

So I removed the space after the comma and it is worky worky now.

Thank you all for your help

Nginx configured by iRedMail loads files from some directories, you need to make sure your virtual web host config files are loaded by Nginx. Please start with /etc/nginx/nginx.conf, check the "include ..." directives.

Hi, thanks for your response.
This is my conf from /etc/nginx/nginx.conf

user www-data;
worker_processes 1;
pid /var/run/nginx.pid;

events {
    worker_connections 1024;
}

http {
    include /etc/nginx/conf-enabled/*.conf;
    include /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/*.conf;

In the 00-default.conf I have this:

server {
    # Listen on ipv4
    listen 80;

    # Listen on ipv6.
    # Note: this setting listens on both ipv4 and ipv6 with Nginx release
    #       shipped in some Linux/BSD distributions.
    #listen [::]:80;

    server_name _;

    # Redirect all insecure http:// requests to https://
    return 301 https://$host$request_uri;
}

In the 00-default-ssl.conf I have this:

server {
    listen 443;
    server_name _;

    root /var/www/html;
    index index.php index.html;

    include /etc/nginx/templates/misc.tmpl;
    include /etc/nginx/templates/ssl.tmpl;
    include /etc/nginx/templates/iredadmin.tmpl;
    include /etc/nginx/templates/roundcube.tmpl;
    include /etc/nginx/templates/sogo.tmpl;
    include /etc/nginx/templates/netdata.tmpl;
    include /etc/nginx/templates/php-catchall.tmpl;
    include /etc/nginx/templates/stub_status.tmpl;
}

Then I have other virtual ones that were working until I installed iredmail, since I install when I call any virutal the webmail of iredmail always speaks to me.
I do not see anything more than this.

Thanks for your answer

Okay I managed to fix the first issue. Turn out that my hostname was reverted after a reboot. I now no longer get the error mentioned above.

I'm now at the following error:
mx dovecot: lda(postmaster@MYDOMAIN.COM): Error: userdb lookup: connect(/var/run/dovecot/auth-userdb) failed: Permission denied (euid=2000(vmail) egid=2000(vmail) UNIX perms appear ok (ACL/MAC wrong?), dir owned by 0:0 mode=0755)

EDIT:
I managed to fix the second issue as well.
In the file: /etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.dovecot.dovecot-lda

I changed the line:
/usr/lib/dovecot/dovecot-lda flags=(complain) {

Into the line:
/usr/lib/dovecot/dovecot-lda flags=(complain,attach_disconnected) {

After that a restart of the apparmor service fixed the issue.
